This occupation is found in a number of sector environments, varying in sizestyle and ambiance. An advanced beauty therapist can be employed within the beauty industry, travel, leisure and health sectors, in a variety of salons,spas and aesthetic environments.

The broad purpose of this occupation is to provide, design and implementbespoke treatment plans. These treatments range from advanced manualtherapies (such as advanced massage techniques) and technical therapies (such as face and body electrical treatments) to meet and manage clientneeds and expectations. They implement organisational operations (salonbusiness systems and processes, data protection) to comply with legal andregulatory requirements, contribute to the financial effectiveness of thebusiness and maintaining and maximising resources, (people, equipment andconsumables).

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a number ofinternal (e.g. other members of staff) and external (e.g. product brand,manufacturer representatives and other professionals) individuals, buildingexemplary relationships based on trust with clients, colleagues andorganisations.

An employee in this occupation will be responsible for working independentlydelivering treatments in a private, secure and safe environment. An advancedbeauty therapist will also when required, supervise others to support team andbusiness growth.

Qualifications to be achieved within apprenticeship

VTCT L3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Massage

This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you togain employment as a beauty massage therapist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto thisqualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 2 qualification in beautytherapy and/or a successful skills test and interview.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to workeffectively as a beauty massage therapist including, mandatory units covering thefollowing: body massage, Indian head massage, massage with pre-blended oils, stonetherapy, monitoring procedures in the salon and contributing to the planning of apromotional event.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills byselecting a number of optional beauty therapy units, which include: airbrush make-upservices, intimate waxing, single eyelash extensions, UV tanning, self-tanning, faceand body electrical treatments. The structure of this qualification provides you withthe flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for the roleof beauty massage therapist.

Throughout this qualification, you will develop your knowledge and understanding ofrelevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will alsodevelop a range of technical skills in massage, using a variety of different techniques.You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicateeffectively with clients.

End Point Assessment (EPA)
The EPA for the Beauty Therapist Apprenticeship Standard will be assessed via threeassessment methods, a knowledge test, observation and professional discussion.
